OVERVIEW
Crowdfunding is becoming a formidable new way to fund new entrepreneurial projects and companies - particularly for creative projects and innovative design products.
But this new world of crowdfunding has a new set of rules, and requires new techniques and approaches - from crafting a pitch to creating videos to new legal and marketing issues.
In this workshop, you'll learn, hands on: How to prepare your idea or company to attract crowdfunding; How to conduct a successful crowdfunding campaign using social media, and How to leverage your crowdfunding campaign into broader entrepreneurial success.
You'll learn the best-practices and methods of writing to attract funding, and to create a compelling crowdfunding video yourself, using low cost equipment and free software tools.

Learn which forms of crowdfunding are relevant (and legal) for your kind of venture. Learn the latest legal issues, and the latest crowdfunding sites and methods from Equity Crowdfunding, Debt to Donation crowdfunding. Learn what kinds of crowdfunding options are available and how much can you expect to raise. See what successful and unsuccessful campaigns look like, and factors for success and failure.

Crafting The Idea and Campaign - Planning and Writing
Learn what kinds of ideas, projects and companies get funded, and how to prepare your 'pitch' in a way unique to crowdfunding sites that will attract backers, and influencers. Crowdfunding pitches (descriptions) are different that 'elevator pitches', business plans or grant proposals - learn the right tone, wording and format that is best for crowdfunding and attracting backers. Learn the nuances of choosing the right fundraising goal vs the right timeframe for the campaign.

Preparing the Visuals - Photos and Video
Unlike other forms of funding, crowdfunding is heavily dependent on the use of video and images to help attract and excite potential funders. Learn some practical, hands on techniques for creating videos or compelling photo/graphical images that will impart your vision to potential backers - with the appropriate level of quality, and a high level of integrity. We'll demonstrate how to create crowdfunding videos using low cost equipment and free software tools so you can create your own successful crowdfunding videos.

Perks and Rewards
Incentives for attracting donors are probably the most unique aspect of a crowdfunding campaign, and one of the most important. Most entrepreneurs underestimate and overlook the creation of compelling perks and rewards as part of their campaign. Learn how to create and choose highly compelling perks and rewards, appropriate for your target audience, and where to obtain these unique rewards. Learn about the issues on costs vs benefits of the rewards.

Running a Successful Campaign - Social Media and Marketing
Learn how to effectively use social media marketing, traditional marketing, and 'in person' marketing to reach likely donors and investors, and to encourage existing backers to spread the word on your behalf. Learn the 'rules of engagement' and techniques that contribute to the most successful crowdfunding campaigns.
Instructors
Christopher-John "CJ" Cornell, Ph.D., is Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship & Innovation, and Director of Venture Development at Cogswell Polytechnical College. He is the author of numerous papers and articles on entrepreneurship, technology and on crowdfunding. As a serial entrepreneur, CJ Cornell was founder or senior management of more than a dozen successful startup ventures that collectively attracted over $250 million in private funding, and launched dozens of innovative products that have exceeded $3 billion in revenues. Recently he was managing director of Propel Arizona, one of the largest crowdfunding sites in the US before being acquired in 2014. He has conducted over 40 crowdfunding workshops and lectures, and has been part of over 60 successful crowdfunding campaigns.
Jim McNeill is a Streaming Media industry veteran with over 15 years of experience. Jim is currently Product Manager for Qumu Corporation and has a diverse background in video production, post production and live streaming operations.
