Pop-Up Magazine is a live magazine, created for a stage, a screen, and a live audience. Contributors tell vivid, never-before-told, multimedia stories accompanied by illustration, animation, photography, and an original score performed onstage by our musical collaborators, Magik*Magik Orchestra. We end the night gathered around the bar, performers and audience together. And nothing goes online after--you have to be there to see it.
Contributors to Pop-Up Magazine's Winter 2020 Issue include comedians Catherine Cohen (Seek Treatment podcast, High Maintenance, Broad City), Jo Firestone (Shrill), and Jordan Klepper (Klepper, The Daily Show); musician Jinho "The Piper" Ferreira (Flipsyde); documentary filmmakers Isabel Castro (Crossing Over, named Best Documentary Film by GLAAD), Jon-Sesrie Goff (Smithsonian Museum of African American Art and Culture) and Cecilia Aldarondo (Memories of a Penitent Heart, Picket Line); photographer Diana Markosian (National Geographic, The New Yorker, The New York Times); artists Liana Finck (The New Yorker, The Awl; author, Passing for Human) and Esther Pearl Watson (Frieze Art Fair, Webb Gallery); and more.
Pop-Up Magazine's Winter 2020 Issue will feature stories about a soap opera's significance in post-Soviet Russia, flying saucers and family obsessions, the criminalization of humanitarian aid at the border, learning to say what we mean -- and even some cabaret.
