Polyglamorous: Baronhawk Poitier & Black

SEE EVENT DETAILS
2024 is here and we are ready for it. Polyglamorous returns to Public Works for a full venue takeover for MLK weekend. For this edition we are featuring DC's Baronhawk Poitier and Oakland's Black. Polyglamorous residents Mark O'Brien and BEYA are providing support.

Growing up in PG County, Maryland nestled between Baltimore and Washington, DC shaped life for artist Baronhawk Poitier. Listening to local radio stations and sorting through records while working at The Record Exchange heavily influenced his pursuit of a career as a producer and DJ. He was recognized alongside mentor Kris Klayton aka Karizma/ Kaytronik with a grant from the National Endowment of Arts for electronic music production. Baronhawk expresses his passion for cultural preservation and education working with dance legends at the nonprofit culture and education project Urban Artistry, Inc. He has also earned a name for himself within the LGBTQIA+ dance music community as a member of the unique DC based queer artist collective "The NeedleExchange," who are known for their independent events, raves and DJ residencies. Baronhawk has released music on a number of labels including Honey Soundsystem, Nervous Records, Cool Ranch, None/Such Records and Trax Only.

Black (no, she does not like to be called "DJ Black"), learned her craft over 25 years ago from Sexy DJ and Nadeeah. Over the years, Black has played alongside MAW (Masters At Work), Fuse, Digit, J Boogie, Rusty Lazer, Trackademicks as well as for the likes of Erykah Badu, The Roots, Patty Duke, Tony Toni Tone, Yo Yo, Bahamadia, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ledisi, Alanis Morissette, Big Freedia, Hot Tub, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Company, The Lovemakers, Brandy, Goapele, Nneka, and many others locally, nationally, and internationally. Black has been a member of A.B.L.U.N.T., Herstory, and produced some of Bay Area's best parties like Tight, Dream EZ, Hella Gay, and Ships in the Night.
