Plagues and the Paradox of Progress

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Curbing infectious diseases has extended lives and prevented child deaths, but has also brought unexpected health and demographic challenges, according to Thomas J. Bollyky, author of "Plagues and the Paradox of Progress", and the director of the Global Health Program at the Council on Foreign Relations. Nations are unprepared to handle surges in chronic illnesses and rapid urbanization and are facing increased pressure to migrate. Bollyky will discuss how improved health must be embedded in a larger development strategy, including investment in quality health-care and education systems, making cities more livable, and family planning and reproductive health care.
SPEAKER:
Thomas BollykySenior Fellow for Global Health, Economics, and Development and Director of the Global Health Program, Council on Foreign Relations
