Petaluma Talks

Come spend two hours on a local estate just five minutes west of downtown Petaluma to listen and engage with local/global experts who live in Sonoma County and enjoy a glass of wine and snacks from local companies.

The format of Petaluma Talk is informal aimed at learn something new, or expanding knowledge, in an easy format. Each speaker will speak for no more than ten minutes with an hour of informal engagement after.

All proceeds from the event will go to support the great work Petaluma Health Center does for our community.

Speaker and subjects below:



Ted Eliot, former US Ambassador to Afghanistan, Dean Emiritus of Fletcher School of Dimplomacy and Law at Tufts University, Trustee Emeritus of the Asia Foundation Along with his wife Pat, tireless supporters of Sonoma Open Space.

Subject: Ted will speak on what he believes are the three largest threats to the well being of his grandchildren.

Kristin Aquilino: Scientist at UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory. Recently received the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Species in the Spotlight Hero Award in Washington DC for her work saving white abalone.

Subject: Spa treatments, mood lighting, and matchmaking: saving the endangered white abalone.

Julianne Guariglia: Deputy Director of Initiatives and Information for the Clinton Foundation. She works across the Foundation programs to help ensure coordination and knowledge sharing. She also manages the content for the Foundation programs, assists with relationship management, and prepares information and communications on the Foundation’s Initiatives.

Subject: Community Lessons Learned from extensive health work and program management in Africa that apply to the Opioid crisis in America,

Paul Heavenridge is the Executive Director of Literacyworks, a national nonprofit educational organization dedicated to the creation and advancement of effective materials for educators and learners in the fields of adult and family literacy. Locally, Literacyworks has established the Literacyworks Center which assists low literacy, low income, highly motivated adults in the North Bay to become career & college ready and the Parents as First Teachers program that works with low-literacy, low-income bilingual parents and children by training parents in the basic skills to encourage their children to become avid readers and writers. Paul has over 40 years of experience in adult and family education. He is a Sonoma County Library Commissioner. He believes in lifelong learning as a path towards opportunity and fulfillment.

Subject: “The Importance of a Literate America: Why Should We Care?”
