Just as Cinequest serves as an annual festival for films created outside of Hollywood's big-budget studios, the Mountain View-based Pear Avenue Theatre also holds a yearly celebration of independent plays--written, directed and performed about as far off Broadway as one can get. Running from March 13 through April 5, the Pear Slices series presents a succession of original plays, fresh from the minds of the Pear Avenue Theatre's resident playwrights. Varied but complementary, this year's selections promise not only to possess the passion and freedom of independent theater, but also to pluck at a broad spectrum of emotion.
