Pacific Commons, a regional lifestyle center in Fremont, California (http://pacificcommons.com), together with EnChroma, a maker of leading-edge eyewear for color blindness (http://www.enchroma.com), will provide 30 color blind children free glasses for color blindness as well as free color vision testing to the public on Monday, December 20th, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Color blindness is common, with an estimated 13 million people in the United States (one in 12 men and one in 200 women) having the condition. Color blind people see only about 10% of the more than 1 million hues and shades those with normal color vision can experience; to those with color vision deficiency, colors appear dull, muted, and any colors containing red or green are washed out and hard to see. EnChroma glasses enable people with red-green color blindness to see an expanded range of clear, brilliant color, including Santa's red suit. On December 20th, EnChroma will offer adults and children a free two-minute test of their color vision at The Block (near Koja Kitchen) at Pacific Commons. The first 30 children (ages 12 and under) who test positive for color blindness will receive a FREE pair of EnChroma glasses (a $300 value) and the opportunity to meet Santa in person, seeing his vibrant red suit for what may be the very first time. Parents are asked to bring proof of their child's age; no appointment is needed. Guests are asked to observe all state and local healthcare regulations; masks may be required.
