Outdoor Capoeira Performance: ABADÁ-Capoeira SF's 30th Annual Batizado

Experience capoeira--the dance-like martial art of Brazil--in this outdoor, intergenerational performance with live music and traditional instruments. ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco, a women-led capoeira school and 30-year stronghold of the Mission District, will hold its annual youth + adult batizado performance and graduation ceremony in a public venue for the first time ever. In this traditional ritual, new students are initiated into the world of capoeira by playing with a master-level artist and continuing students may receive a new cord (like a karate belt) in recognition of their growth. Top-level guest artists from Brazil and throughout the US will perform throughout the event. This performance is free and family-friendly, so bring a picnic and come experience Brazilian arts!
