What is it?
Please join us for an evening filled with music and Bharatanatyam (Indian Classical dance) as we support a local Bayview-Hunter's Point organization, Literacy for Environmental Justice. We hope to raise awareness of pressing issues that threaten the livelihood of our own communities here, in San Francisco, and beyond, through several original performances by talented Bay Area Bharatanatyam dancers.
Why Does It Matter?
Southeast San Francisco is home to more than two-thirds of San Francisco’s pollution sources and one third of the city’s hazardous waste sites. Historically, the region has faced disproportionate rates of industrial pollution, high rates of unemployment, and ongoing marginalization.
While climate change will affect all of us, some regions are more at risk than others. We must stand with and support these communities, often communities of color, and ask for and support change.
