'Oklahoma!' by Rodgers & Hammerstein

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at San Jose City College Theater (see times)
In our 45th year of High Quality Stage Productions, Lyric Theatre presents "Oklahoma!" with Music by Richard Rodgers and Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. Based on the play, "Green Grow the Lilacs" by Lynn Riggs. Original Dances by Agnes de Mille.

Fully staged, in English, performed by accomplished singers from the entire Bay Area. Featuring Lyric's excellent directors, orchestra, set designs and costumes.

Oklahoma! was the first of many successful musicals written by the team of composer Richard Rodgers and librettist Oscar Hammerstein II. An innovative musical without stars, "gags", or chorus girls in flimsy attire, it integrated songs and American style folk dances into a heartfelt story.

Set in Oklahoma Territory in 1906, it tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams. A secondary romance concerns cowboy Will Parker and his flirtatious fiancee, Ado Annie.

The original Broadway production opened in 1943, was a box-office smash and ran for an unprecedented 2,212 performances, later enjoying award-winning revivals, national tours, foreign productions and a 1955 film adaptation, which won an Academy Award for Best Music. Rodgers and Hammerstein won a special Pulitzer Prize for Oklahoma! in 1944.

Full of familiar songs and rousing dances!

Stage Director: Barbara Murray
Music Director: Jean Narunsky
Choreographer: Pauline Kanter
Fight Choreographer: Kit Wilder

Producer: Chris Frye
Assistant Producer: Cheryl Passanisi

Discounts available for Students, Seniors, and Groups.
