This collection is timed to provide benchmark radiation levels
of different isotopes
so they may be compared to the Fukushima radiation plume levels
that is expected to arrive along the West Coast
later this year and into next year.
This is part of a publicly funded ocean water testing program
which is being done all along the West Coast
from Alaska, Canada, Washington, Oregon to Southern California.

Federal agencies are not doing any testing
as EPA safe isotope exposure levels have been increased by hundreds of times in 2013.

The $500 cost for this test was from an anonymous resident of Santa Cruz County.
More collections for testing will occur periodically this year depending on availability of funds.
