The smell of the sea water, the long expanse of grey/beige sandy beach, the bon fires, surfers, runners, bikers and more. It's Ocean Beach.
Most of the year, it's cool to cold out in this part of town where the fog sparingly yields to the sun. But on those few nice days, the real happenings of the city move west to the shore. The families & East Bay comes out to escape the heat.
The surf is notorious for it's vicious breaks and rip tides. Plus the water remains refrigerator cold, even in the summer. So if you get in the water: 1) know what you're doing, 2) do it in a wet suit.
