https://www.roxie.com/ai1ec_event/spookfest-2018/

SPOOKFEST returns to the Roxie with 13 new, independent short films that showcase the “monsters among us,” in all their ghastly manifestations. This year, the theater transforms into a full-on haunted house, kicking off each screening with a costume contest, and concluding with the audience-voted OSCARE Awards, presented by our ghoulish hosts. It’s one hell of a monster mash!

BEETLEJUICE (35mm)
October 26 at 9pm and October 27 at 9:30pm
https://www.roxie.com/ai1ec_event/beetlejuice-35mm/

Enjoy themed Beetlejuice cocktails at Dalva before or after the show with your ticket! This sleeper hit, a sweetly bonkers comedy fantasy about ghosts uneasily playing house with humans, confirmed Tim Burton as a creative genius and Winona Ryder as a piquant talent. Playing a goth teen caught in the middle, she holds her own with a cast including Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones (as her folks), Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis (as a nice young dead couple), and, of course, Michael Keaton as the berserk titular poltergeist.

TESIS (THESIS)
Saturday, October 27 at 7pm
https://www.roxie.com/ai1ec_event/tesis-thesis/

Presented by RoxCine! Spanish director Alejandro Amenábar’s superb debut is a psychological thriller about a university student working on a thesis about violence in the media. As she researches material, she uncovers a lot more than she bargained for. Thesis was nominated for eight prizes at the 1997 Goya Awards and it won seven of them, including Best Film. It is a masterclass in suspense!

THE HUNGER
Sunday, October 28 at 6:30pm
https://www.roxie.com/ai1ec_event/the-hunger/

Presented by OUTlook! A sensual, stylish goth romp, THE HUNGER is necessary spooky season viewing. Seductive vampires Miriam and John Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie) stalk the clubs of New York looking for victims. When John suddenly begins to rapidly age, they consult a famous gerontologist, Dr. Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon). But John is unable to be saved, and the full extent of Miriam’s terrible powers are revealed as she decides to replace him with Sarah as her new lover. Will Sarah yield to the seemingly irresistible Miriam? Watch this darkly sparkling eighties gem and find out.

PULSE (KAIRO)

https://www.roxie.com/ai1ec_event/nippon-nights-pulse-kairo/

Presented by Nippon Nights! You’ll never look at the Internet the same again. A website, which at first appears to be merely a scary hoax with an irresistible marketing ploy, turns out to be run by a sinister and deadly force. As people repeatedly tap into the site’s frightening images of the dead, the supernatural force begins controlling their lives.
