NeuroNight: Connectomics & Cocktails

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join us for a drink and an exploration of the latest in neuroscience, from deep within the brain to the complexities of the mind and body. We'll mark the closing of the Mental Work showroom with talks and demos from researchers exploring the brain in new and novel ways. Discover how Google is building comprehensive maps of connections within the brain; how the design for brain-computer interfaces at Campus Biotech benefits from art-science research, and see demos of new technology built around neuroscience.
Program
6:30pm — doors open 7:00pm — talks 8:30pm — demos, cocktails, music 10:00pm — doors close
Bios
Viren Jain, Google AI Viren Jain is a Research Scientist at Google in Mountain View, California where he leads a team pursuing advances in high-throughput, synaptic-resolution brain mapping. Prior to Google, Viren was a Group Leader at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Janelia Research Campus. Viren holds a PhD in Computation from MIT and undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Cognitive Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Demos

Developed by a team of artists and scientists, RE/ME, a DART-supported project, is a tool that uses carefully designed patterns of touch and sound to positively influence the perception of a person’s own body. The technology can also be used to create imaginative perceptions of one’s physical size and shape.
Houssem Benmahfoudh (University of Geneva) presents his bio-inspired work on strongly decentralized but interconnected systems.

Partners
The swissnex San Francisco edition of Mental Work is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Bertarelli Foundation, which tackles some the biggest challenges in neuroscience and marine conservation. Based in Switzerland, it supports research at Harvard Medical School and Campus Biotech, a neuroscience center in Geneva established by the Bertarelli family, the Wyss Foundation, the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and the University of Geneva. Part of the Swiss Touch campaign, Mental Work receives additional support from Wearable Sensing and the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.
