Nektar - Ambient House Yoga

SEE EVENT DETAILS
NEKTAR - AMBIENT HOUSE YOGA
Just like bees are attracted to the nectar of flowers, Sadhakas (spiritual seekers) are attracted to spirit ritual experiences. Nektar is that moment in a yoga class when the music is perfect, sweat is dripping off of your chin, and you feel that sweet, inner calm.
Nektar Ambient House Yoga is a unique yoga and house music event that will include a Level 1-2 Vinyasa style yoga class taught with local underground house music. Unlike a yoga class with a playlist, this experience is built fresh so no class is exactly the same. Your mind and body will be nourished with a combination of vinyasa flow yoga and the rhythmic sound of dreamy underground house. Kirtan’s teaching combined with the musical talents of Elz and Joey Alaniz will help you fall into a meditative state allowing you to be present and one with others, offering a truly one-of-a kind spiritual ritual.
Nektar House Yoga is appropriate for all levels of yogis from beginners to more advanced folks. Please come and hear, feel and taste the sweet Nektar with us.

Yoga by Kirtan "Content Soul" Smith
Kirtan was born in Los Angeles to dedicated yogi parents. His early childhood included study of Hindu scriptures, reading and writing in Sanskrit, mantra chanting and body surfing at Venice Beach. His first trip to India was at the age of 6, and a few years later returned for a year of intensive yogic studies at an Ashram. He completed his first teacher training with Regina Shakti, one of Brazil’s foremost Hatha Yoga masters, at the Krsna-Shakti Ashram in Sao Paulo. He taught Yoga for six years in Brazil and guided guests and celebrities from around the world on jungle hikes and ocean kayak tours at BodySoul Adventures.
In 2009 he completed a 500-hr Integrative Yoga Therapist TT through the Urban Zen foundation. He studied with a faculty that included Rodney and Colleen Saidman Yee, Richard Rosen, Richard Freeman, Reiki Masters, Buddhist chaplains, and essential oils experts. He was a mentor for the 2011 Training group, and he uses these healing modalities as a volunteer in Beth Israel Hospital and with his private clients. Over the years he has organized and participated in dozens of Yoga Retreats and workshops in the US, India, Brazil and Costa Rica. He is known for his dedication to his students, calming and grounding presence, and for infusing the devotional aspects of Bhakti Yoga into his classes.
Music by:
Elz: Known for genre bending and crowd pleasing, she has mastered the art of reading the crowd and fitting the mood and setting of any party while always maintaining her musical integrity. Growing up listening to break beats, techno, and house music along with discovering classic rock, jazz, hip-hop, and funk music she learned how to incorporate all of these elements together to create some serious flavor. Some of the gigs she has performed: SXM festival in St. Maartin, BPM festival in Mexico, Coachella, WMC in Miami, Member's Only in New York, Los Angeles, Tahoe, Vegas, Sunset Campout, Burning Man and all over the bay area including SF clubs The Great Northern, Audio, Mezzanine, Temple, Monarch, DNA Lounge, Ruby Skye, The End Up, 1015 Folsom, The Clift Hotel, and Audio SF. Be on the look out for her newest productions with lyrist Louis Hale from LA to be released in the upcoming months.
Joey Alaniz:  His older brother was a mobile dj. At the age of 14, Joey would sneak in to his brother’s studio when he was gone and scratch the shit out of anything he could get his hands on. Back then it was all hip-hop but when those A. sides couldn’t be played anymore, he discovered the B. side dance tracks and was instantly hooked. His sound selections have taken him to play in far off lands like Kenya, Mexico, Hawaii, New York and all the major clubs in San Francisco. He held down a three-year residency at the legendary San Francisco night club, The End Up, playing the Sunday Mass party. Currently he’s a resident at Halcyon, one of SF’s hottest nightclubs.
Now he spends his days mastering the art of fried rice, whiskey consumption, looking busy while not doing anything at all and working on original material which he will be releasing this year. Check out his soundcloud for fresh beats or come to the club and experience his tunes on the dance floor.
