Natural Wisdom and Compassion

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Meditations of Natural Wisdom and Compassion are based on practices from the Tibetan Buddhist Nyingma tradition and have been adapted for people from all backgrounds. The practice integrates two approaches: simple imagery to release our innate capacity for compassion and a silent open awareness meditation.

To receive and extend love helps our mind relax into its most natural state—the wisdom of openness, tranquility and simplicity beyond self-clinging. By resting in its natural state, the mind can further unleash its underlying capacity of love. As this unity of love and wisdom unfolds, we can become more fully present to others, communing with them in the depth of their being instead of reacting from habitual judgments.

The entire spectrum of NWC practice is comprised of a series of related meditations. We start by learning to freely receive love and compassion from our personal “benefactors”. We then learn to extend that love to loved ones, strangers and people who are difficult for us. During this daylong we will practice the full range of the NWC approach. By the end of the day you will have the experience and understanding to practice this on your own.

The afternoon session builds on the morning program. Please plan to attend the entire retreat. This daylong is for both new and experienced students.

Meditations of Natural Wisdom and Compassion was developed by Lama John Makransky and the Foundation for Active Compassion in Boston. (foundationforactivecompassion, org). You can also learn about this approach in John Makransky’s book, Awakening through Love. Carla Brennan is an authorized teacher of NWC practice.

Teacher: Carla Brennan is an Insight Meditation teacher in the Santa Cruz area with the Bloom of the Present Sangha. She offers classes, retreats and other programs. Carla has practiced since 1975 in the Zen, Theravada and Tibetan traditions.

The event is free. Donations accepted.
