With Textile Artist Kristin Arzt
Join us for an evening of pigmented possibility as we learn the magic of natural indigo dyeing and Shibori resist techniques with local textile artist Kristin Arzt! Learn the basics of Natural Indigo dyeing and Shibori techniques. Go over how to mix your own natural ferrous vat and best practices for vat longevity and maintenance. You will be given 4 cotton 22 x 22 inch squares to practice various surface design techniques to dye and take home. You are welcome to bring a few of your own small materials and garments made from natural fibers (cotton, linen, hemp, wool, silk, etc.) to dye as well.
Note: Due to the hands-on nature of this workshop, participants are encouraged to bring an apron or change of clothes.
Kristin Arzt currently resides in Oakland, California where she grows dye plants in her garden. She uses natural dyes and textile arts as a form of collage to make one-of-a-kind quilts. The alchemy of natural indigo is a particularly special art form that she loves to share with others.
Bites from the Palette menu and a wine pairing will be offered during the event.
