Moth Belly is an artist owned and operated gallery, community event space, and arts media platform based in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. Started by local artists John Vochatzer and KT Seibert, it was founded in the fall of 2020 and has been open to the public with monthly exhibits and more since October of 2021. As an ever-growing platform, we are constantly striving to build and develop our organization in new directions, and are gradually working to include a variety of different events such as workshops, drawing nights, and open mics into our programming. Additionally, as of June, 2022, we are officially and pro-bono managing the Lower Polk and Tenderloin Neighborhood's First Thursday Art Walks, which has included keeping an up-to-date website and social media accounts, helping participating businesses with promotional materials, and connecting artists with local businesses for exhibit opportunities.
Most importantly, this project of ours is not for profit and is 100% a labor of love that we've done entirely on a volunteer basis and not made any money from. We're here doing this because San Francisco needs places like this and we need it. We put a strong emphasis on exhibiting and featuring artists whose work might be too weird or unconventional for most galleries, and we also proudly pay those artists a considerably higher percentage than the average gallery- which we would like to continue doing pending the success of this fundraiser.
