The Eighth Annual Monterey Rock & Rod Festival, May 9--10, 2014, is a celebration of rock & roll and custom & classic cars and trucks benefitting Gateway Center of Monterey County, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization which provides services and support to adults with intellectual disabilities in Monterey County. Proceeds will go toward Gateway Center's Capital Campaign Program to help them provide a stimulating environment where clients can achieve their goals with safety and dignity.
The festival kicks off Friday evening, May 9 at 6pm with a good, old-fashioned SOCK HOP held in the Monterey Room at the Monterey County Fairgrounds & Event Center. Back "in the house" this year is Jeremy "Elvis" Pearce as well as our awesome house band, the Yard Dogs. A Show-N-Shine, no-host BBR & full bar, silent and live auctions, along with best-dressed and best-dance contests will take place. Sock Hop tickets are $20 and will be available at select locations and at the door.
The car show will be held in the Custom House Plaza in beautiful downtown Monterey near Fisherman's Wharf. Starting at 10am and ending at 8pm, this year's Show-N-Shine will feature 1975 and older vintage, customs, classics, hot rods, street rods, muscle cars, and trucks. Vehicles will be judged and are eligible to win merchant awards, one of 15 Awards of Excellence or the Best of the West honor. Admission to car show and live music downtown is FREE!
Music headliners will be Terry Sylvester, formerly of the Hollies and Ron Dante of the Archies. Also look forward to live entertainment by the Yard Dogs; Los High Tops; Rock, Paper, Scissors, with Linda Arceo; DJ AL B, and The DJ from Guam, and much more!
