Discover mindfulness strategies to use in your work with youth
Stay up to date on the latest mindfulness research

This retreat is a project of Mindful Schools hosted by the Mindful Educators Alliance.  We hold retreats throughout the San Francisco Bay Area aimed at supporting the growth of mindfulness in educational settings.
Facilitators for this event include:Susi Brennan, MA, CMI, is a Mindful Schools Certified Instructor and has been a public school teacher for over 20 years, currently as the Instructional Reform Facilitator at Hillcrest Elementary in San Francisco where she works to support and empower teachers through facilitating grade level meetings and co-designing professional development.  When Susi discovered mindfulness in 2013, she noticed how her personal practice supported her work with students diagnosed with ADHD and learning differences and her own children. A year later, she helped start a mindfulness program at Daniel Webster, teaching mindfulness to K-5 classes and inviting teachers to get trained. Susi believes strongly that teachers and staff who embody mindfulness and compassion have the greatest impact on the well-being of the whole school community. Her work in schools and the communities they serve has fed a passion for social justice through building reflective, compassionate, empowered learning communities.Kory O’Rourke, CMI, has been a public high school teacher and school leader for over a decade. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco, within the Teacher Education department. Kory is a Mindful Schools Certified Instructor and believes that mindfulness is an essential tool for building equity in our schools and our communities. Kory uses her personal practice to support the work she does with students, teachers, and school leaders /administrators in supporting mindfulness instruction in schools, and beyond. Three years ago, she began developing a whole-school implementation program, which is now successful in her high school, with ties to the middle school. Kory is passionate about mindfulness, and is eager to share her experiences and provide support to educators who also want to bring mindfulness to their students.
Chelsea True, CMI, is the founder of Joyful Mind Project, a Sonoma County nonprofit that provides mindfulness education to schools and families throughout the Bay Area, and a co-founder of the Mindful Educators Alliance.  She has enjoyed teaching mindfulness in over a dozen local schools, including Sonoma Academy where she is an adjunct teacher offering a mindfulness elective for grades 9-12; at Sheppard Accelerated Elementary School where she teaches mindfulness with Simply Strings, a project of the Santa Rosa Symphony; and as an annual guest lecturer at Sonoma State University. Chelsea presently holds two certifications in secular mindfulness, in MBSR-T (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for Teens) and as a Mindful Schools Certified Instructor. She brings more than twenty years of personal practice to her work, which is featured in the book, Happy Teachers Change the World, by Thich Nhat Hanh and Katherine Weare.
