Why Kristin?
Kristin Seale was raised by a hard working single mother in Baltimore, MD, who raised her to believe that if they had enough to eat and a place to sleep, it was their responsibility to serve others in need. She spent her childhood volunteering with and without her mother at the MD School for the Blind, a homeless breakfast, peer groups for children of separation and divorce, and the first wave of people living with HIV/AIDS. In 5th grade Kristin was elected Class Executive and worked that school year leading her grade in work with a state legislator on Maryland’s first child safety seat bill, including testifying at a hearing in Annapolis. By the end of that school year the law passed, and Kristin was hooked on community-led public service.
Kristin is Director of Operations for an energy nonprofit in Philadelphia, and has been a public servant throughout her career. She has a long track record of protecting and supporting communities in public health, poverty law and energy. Kristin earned a Bachelors of Public and Community Health from New Mexico State University, and a Masters of Public Administration from Villanova University.
Why Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania’s state legislative and congressional districting is a masterclass in partisan gerrymandering. Republicans hold a drastically unfair advantage and are over-represented in the state legislature, so it's critical for Democrats to win seats in 2018 to make blue inroads in this presidential battleground state. We need to win seats back in both chambers of the state legislature to lay the foundation for flipping the state blue.
Victory Fund
LGBTQ Victory Fund works to change the face and voice of America’s politics and achieve equality for LGBTQ Americans by increasing the number of openly LGBTQ officials at all levels of government. Since 1991, Victory Fund has helped elect thousands of LGBTQ people to positions at all levels of government. These LGBTQ voices have made significant contributions to advancing equality for LGBTQ Americans – from passing non-discrimination laws to defeating amendments to ban marriage equality.
