The Mesa Refuge is a nonprofit residency for writers, journalists, and other creatives located in Point Reyes Station. In this year alone we will have hosted nearly 100 inspiring writers who stay on our property for one or two weeks, enjoying the surrounding beauty and reveling in protected time to focus on their writing. We welcome both experienced and emerging writers and creatives who are addressing the pressing issues of our time. It is our priority to support writers focusing on "ideas at the edge" of the areas we value: nature, economic equity and social justice. We encourage you to read more about our alumni on our website.

As a nonprofit and steward of the public good, the Mesa Refuge recognizes the vital importance of voicing and codifying our commitment to work toward diversity, equity and inclusion at all levels of our organization. We recognize the historical inequities and existing systemic barriers that marginalized people have experienced within institutions, and prioritize this work as essential to our mission.

Accessibility
The Mesa Refuge has some accessibility features and we are also located on wild, natural land. To enter the house, there is one step up as you walk in the front door. There is another step up as you enter the kitchen and the downstairs bedroom wing. We have wheelchair ramps for the steps as well as thresholds. The house has three bedrooms, one of which is upstairs. The other two bedrooms are on the ground floor, each have private bathrooms. One of the bathrooms is mobility-ready and has many accessible features including an accessible sink, toilet and walk-in shower with mobility bars. The grounds and gardens surrounding the property are well tended but there are many natural and rustic features throughout including uneven ground and rock pathways in the garden. There are handrails alongside most outdoor steps.
