In celebration of the exhibition "MOTO MMXX," join the Museum of Craft and Design on Zoom for a virtual discussion with land speed motorcycle racer, Erin Sills, in conversation with MCD's Assistant Curator, Ariel Zaccheo.
Land speed racing is one of the longest-standing extreme sports in the World. Women and men race against history to be the fastest - ever - on a certain size and style of motorcycle or car. To succeed, competitors must push the envelope of design, aerodynamics, power, traction, and personal grit. Erin Sills is one of the most accomplished racers in the sport, having set over 45 World and National top speed records since she began racing 20 years ago. Erin will share images and stories of some of the most extreme designs ever brought to land speed racing. She will explore what it takes to conceptualize and design vehicles to go "under the wind" rather than into it. And how does one improve upon an engine that has over one hundred years of technology behind it? Join us to hear more about the artists and builders that push the envelope to follow their passion of speed.
This special virtual event is free for MCD members. Not an MCD Member? Join today at sfmcd.org/join! Non-members can also pay a $10 suggested fee or Pay What You Can by registering through Eventbrite. Your support helps us continue to offer virtual events like these.
