Medicare for All: From Demand to Reality

SEE EVENT DETAILS
A top political priority for activists like Matt Stone of Democratic Socialists of America is a nationwide campaign to win Medicare for All, a single federal program providing universal and comprehensive healthcare coverage to all U.S. residents - free at the point of service. This has so far been an uphill climb, with Republican members of Congress invoking the cost of such a program while they shepherd in trillion-dollar tax cuts favoring the wealthy, hundreds of billions for weapons systems the Pentagon at times doesn't even ask for, and many more billions for wars in the Middle East that our country never seems to win.

Thus the Medicare for All campaign has become a focus of Democratic Socialists of America in its commitment to, among other things, building a mass movement to win universal health care. Every weekend local DSA chapters from coast to coast mobilize volunteer activists to knock on doors and talk to their neighbors about both socialism and healthcare.

On Sunday, September 23, PASMC will present Matt, a local organizer with the Medicare for All campaign, who will talk about DSA's vision for such a system - and its mass organizing strategy to make it a reality. The event begins at 7 PM at the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo, 300 E. Santa Inez Avenue (at Ellsworth) in San Mateo. Admission is free, contributions welcome. The UUSM is wheelchair accessible.

Matt Stone is a volunteer organizer with DSA. He currently serves as the Medicare for All Committee Co-Chair for the East Bay chapter, and is also the West Coast Regional Organizer for the organization's National Medicare for All Campaign.

On September 23 come hear reasons and strategies for universal health care, from someone spending quality time working on both.
