Schaechter will discuss her largest masterpiece to date, "Super/Natural," an 8-foot-tall, 5.5-foot-diameter dome that features 65 vibrant stained glass panels created during her residency at the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics.
Schaechter's artwork is a testament to the power of craft and what's possible when vision and mastery push the perceived limits of stained glass. Referred to herself as a "militant ornamentalist", Schaechter employs her signature glass engraving and layering process to create a rich world within the dome, creating panels teeming with fantastical insects, flora, birds, and beasts. By situating the viewer at the center, "Super/Natural" invites contemplation of inner space, how we experience environments neurologically and psychologically, and outer space, how we extend ourselves into our surroundings.
