Matteo and Amedeo Giovanelli are Italian brothers known professionally as the DJ and production duo Mathame, artists within the cinematic techno genre.
Both brothers were trained in classical music, with Amedeo spending five years at a violin conservatory. In addition Matteo studied film and went on to work for years as a film director.
The brothers formed Mathame while living in Sicily at the base of the Mt. Etna volcano, helping to run their family's bed and breakfast. It was the isolation and unique geography of this location which influenced elements of their music. Mathame has been described as a combination of electronic music, indie electro, new dance and melodic techno, taking influence from science-fiction, classical movie soundtracks, new technology and anime.
Rooted in the cinematic techno genre, Mathame's live Audio Visual (AV) show is a combination of immersive performance and sonic vision. Mathame also utilized AI programming in creating the visuals for their AV show, as well as for other artwork. Over a ten-year period Mathame have released music on the following labels including Souvenir Music, Afterlife, and Oddity Records, and are currently on the Astralwerks roster. Mathame tours globally, performing at locations including Coachella, Ultra Miami Resistance, Tomorrowland, Sonus Festival and others.
