Marimba Maya: Guatemala In Oakland

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join us in solidarity with Oakland's Guatemalan community. Enjoy an afternoon of live marimba music, dance, and delicious food. Find out firsthand how the U.S. exploited the so-called "banana republics" throughout the 20th century, leading to civil war, the little known Mayan genocide in the 1980s, and causing weak governments, corruption, poverty, and violence that are sending people across the border today.

This event is the final of four celebrations connected to the "Undocumented Heart" exhibit featuring cultural traditions of the day laborers.
