First candle of Hanukkah this year is Sunday, December 2
Make a MenorahCole Valley • Tuesday, November 6Rockridge • Wednesday, November 75:30 pm–7:00 pm • $10
To celebrate the festival of lights, children are welcome to visit one of our workshops to create a personalizedmenorah. We’ll provide all of the supplies so that everyone goes home with their very own menorah and nine candles to get started.
Eight of the candles in the menorah represent the eight days that the Jerusalem temple’s lantern remained lit after the temple was reclaimed by the Maccabees in the second century BC. The ninth candle, often elevated above the others, is the shamash, or helper candle, that lights the other candles. Today, Hanukkah is celebrated with the lighting of candles each night for eight days. Each night, one additional candle is lit by the shamash, until all eight candles are lit together on the final night. Please register at colehardware.eventbrite.com to join us.
