In its 71st year, Macy’s Flower Show sets the stage with nearly 130 varieties of flowers, trees and plants to reimagine the first floor of San Francisco’s Union Square store as a carnival fairground in bloom. Macy’s Flower show invites the flower children of San Francisco to come and surround themselves with the sights, sounds and surprises of one of America’s favorite vacation destinations – the carnival.
Carnival, the theme of this year’s magnificent floral showcase, will bring spectators to feast their eyes on millions of blooms, replica rides enhanced with the season’s most fantastic flowers, among other favorites of the midway; starting Sunday, March 26 through Sunday, April 9.

gardens, including representation of The Midway, The Fun House, Tunnel of Love and Carnival Rides.
“A classic carnival celebration is on display at this year’s Macy’s Flower Show, Carnival. With deep colors, patterns and displays that recreate everyone’s favorite carnival elements, this year’s Macy’s Flower Show will invoke the spirit of imagination for spectators as they step into
this floral world of wonder,†said Susan Tercero, executive producer of Macy’s Flower Show.
For 71 years, Macy’s Flower Show has delighted generations of local floral aficionados with
extravagant presentations of gardens that showcase thousands of flowers, plants and trees. Taking root throughout the 1st floor of Macy’s Union Square, the gardens are planted into specially designed and full-scale presentations. The show’s centerpiece is a carousel-inspired praxinoscope, created by the Macy’s team in partnership with the Exploratorium in San Francisco, which will feature images of moving merry-go-round horses projected from a flat disk by a rotating mirror – a flashback to the genesis of motion pictures.
In addition to marking the official celebration for the start of the spring season, Macy’s Flower Show also features participation from specially selected student-designers from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, who have created custom, one-of-a-kind, avant-garde looks inspired by vintage cardinal rides and attractions.
