Special Guest: author and historian Matthew Kennedy
Directed by Delbert Mann
Doris Day, Rock Hudson
A couple of Madison Ave. ad execs shrewdly stymie, scam and seduce each other.
Doris Day and Rock Hudson play Carol Templeton and Jerry Webster, rival Madison Avenue advertising executives in this satire set in the age of "Mad Men." Disgusted by Jerry's tactic of using women and fine dining to attract clients, Carol attempts to steal one of Jerry's accounts -- unaware that the product for the ad campaign does not actually exist. The sexual humor is sophisticated and, years after the movie's release, especially nuanced for 21st century audiences familiar with Hudson's sexual orientation. Tony Randall, who appeared in all three of the Day/Hudson films, almost steals the show as Webster's nervous boss.
