AmiosWest presents LongShotz: Disruption Junction, the triumphant return of the seminal one-act play festival after a three year hiatus. Our 2019 LongShotz Festival will be comprised of three original, world premiere one-act plays commissioned specifically for the production. This process is unique in the Bay Area because we devise an overarching festival theme and assign casts to the playwrights. The playwrights then create an original one-act play - written specifically for their assigned actor. Neiry Rojo, Michael Barr, and Trevor Floyd will direct the plays. Cast includes Cary Cronholm, Alison Whismore, Jesse Lumb, Jayme Catalano, Jean Cary, and Anna Smith.
Once completed, the scripts are handed over to the directors and actors for a four week rehearsal period. This year, AmiosWest is excited to commission new plays by three diverse playwrights, including Morgan Gould (Resident Playwright at New Dramatists and current MFA student at Julliard), Chad Callaghan (ISA’s 25 Screenwriters to Watch in 2019, Yale) and Patricia Cotter (Daytime Emmy Award for Writing, SF Playwrights Foundation). In exploring the Disruption Junction theme, the playwrights are encouraged to create artistically challenging pieces for their talented actors and directors.
The 2019 theme is Disruption Junction, and the plays will focus on the intersection between technology and societal structure in the contemporary world. The goal is to produce a collection of plays that capture a variety of perspectives around the theme to inspire dialogue among the theatre community and audience members. A CA$H Grant from Theatre Bay Area made our 2019 festival possible, allowing AmiosWest to continue the fearless, inclusive, high-quality, professional work they’ve done so far.
