Join screenwriter and Scriptnotes host John August for a live podcast recording!

John will be discussing screenwriting and writing his debut children's book, Arlo Finch in the Valley of Fire, with special guest Grant Faulkner. Scriptnotes is a weekly podcast about screenwriting, including everything from the craft to the business to the best ways to actually get yourself writing.

Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, John August earned a degree in journalism from Drake University and an MFA in film from USC. As a screenwriter, his credits include Big Fish, Charlies Angels, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, and Frankenweenie. In addition to his film career, he hosts a popular weekly podcast, Scriptnotes, with Craig Mazin. He also created the Writer Emergency Pack, an educational storytelling tool that was distributed to over 2,000 classrooms in partnership with non-profit literacy groups like 826LA and NaNoWriMo. Grant Faulkner is the Executive Director of National Novel Writing Month and the co-founder of 100 Word Story. His stories have appeared in dozens of literary magazines, including Tin House, The Southwest Review, and The Gettysburg Review. His essays on creativity have been published in The New York Times, Poets & Writers, Writers Digest, and The Writer. He's published a collection of one hundred 100-word stories, Fissures, and his book of essays on creativity, Pep Talks for Writers: 52 Insights and Prompts to Boost Your Creative Mojo, was recently published by Chronicle Books.
