This is a project based on the life of Charlotte Salomon, a German-Jewish artist born in Berlin in 1917. During the Second World War her father decides to send her to Villefranche-sur-Mer in the South of France, in a bid to save her from Nazism. This is where she develops her skills in art and paints a total of 1325 pictures between 1940 and 1942.
She will leave behind this magnificent work that she calls Leben? oder Theater? (Life? or Theater?, Vie ? ou Théâtre ?). At the age of 26, along with her husband Alexander Nagler, a pregnant Charlotte is deported to Auschwitz. All three die in 1943. Nevertheless she had time to confide her oeuvre to an American living in the South of France, simply saying: “Take care of it, because it’s all my life”.
