Lies My Mother Told Me -- a cabaret extravaganza

Once upon a time…

There was a girl who believed in wishes, true love’s kiss, and happily ever after. Then she found the internet and discovered that a frog is just a frog, though sometimes he’s a handsy little weasel. Too many fairy tales had her looking for her Fairy Godmother to wave a magic wand and introduce her to Prince Charming. This is the story of looking for love in all the wrong places (piano bars) and the comedy of errors that follows when an old fashioned girl fishes for love on the internet.

Written by and featuring Jacquie McCarley

Directed by Lina Koutrakos

Music Direction by Rick Jensen

Accompaniment and arrangements by David Brown

*****

“A Star Was Revealed...the show was stunning. Well sung. Funny, true, heart-warming and heart-wrenching at the same time.”

“It’s like a slightly bawdy June Cleaver met Tina Fey and they wrote a musical.”

“A shimmering, glowing star in the cabaret firmament.”

“...abundant stellar technique and presence, you can Bette your bottom dollar she'll make you spray your drinks in the best watering holes... stay tuned for this ascendant star.”

“You were better than many, if not all, expensive lounge acts in Vegas or Reno that we’ve seen; funny, great voice, artfully put together, personal AND entertaining.”

Jacquie McCarley

Jacquie’s performance career started when she played the eponymous role in her pre-school’s production of Goldilocks & the Three Bears--she’s been dramatic (on stage and off) ever since. When not treading the boards, she’s inflicting random moments of Broadway on the unsuspecting or scheming her next cabaret. Cabaret appearances include: Lies My Mother Told Me, The Gospel of Dolly with Our Lady J, Holiday on the Rocks, Christmas Divas Live!, and a guest appearance in the monthly show of San Francisco's own Katya Smirnoff Skyy. Past theater credits include Nancy in Oliver!, Smitty in How to Succeed, Enid Hoops in Legally Blonde, and far too many renditions of Suddenly Seymore, if there is such a thing, at Martuni's. She recently placed 2nd in San Francisco’s Cabaret Showcase Showdown in the comedy category.
