Let's Watch a Video of George Lakoff

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo (see times)
We certainly wish we could present the brilliant political and linguistic mind of George Lakoff in person, but our "next best thing" is to show a video of this well-regarded and articulate retired Professor of Cognitive Science and Linguistics. The author of "Don't Think of an Elephant!", "Whose Freedom?" and many other books gave a talk in Los Angeles last April entitled "How we can win with the right message", in which he offered thoughts about message framing, strategizing and winning progressive campaigns, be they political or action-related.

While the video is roughly three hours in length and includes interviews with Lakoff as well as his address, we have taken a 55-minute segment that seems to effectively convey what he is about and what he tries to teach.

Lakoff touches on such subjects as how people think and absorb information, how entities such as government, business and labor can be defined, and how to appeal to conservatives. The result is a mix of ideas and practical applications that activists can work with - and be encouraged by. A discussion will follow the video screening.

The November 19 event will begin at 7 PM, in Beck Hall at the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo, 300 E. Santa Inez Avenue (at Ellsworth) in San Mateo. Admission is free, contributions will be welcome. The UUSM is wheelchair accessible.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear the constructive thoughts of a clear voice for needed political strategy!
