Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Program:
Swan Lake, Act II (choreography after Ivanov; music by Tchaikovsky)
Pas de deux or modern work to be announced
Yes, Virginia, Another Piano Ballet (choreography by Peter Anastos; music by Chopin)
Paquita (choreography after Petipa: music by Minkus)

For lovers of live performance, there is a deeply satisfying combination of delights that the Trocks deliver better than almost anyone else: exquisite technique and elegant styling, deftly delivered with a hilarious punchline. Celebrating its landmark 50th anniversary season, the all-male drag ballet company is adored for affectionately skewering the old warhorses of classical dance and inviting audiences to rediscover both obscure and beloved scenes from classic repertoire. The Trocks were groundbreaking at their founding in 1974, and their irreverent, deeply informed romps through the glories and excesses of the dance world continue to offer laughs for aficionados and novices alike. "This is a company that brings its audiences pure joy" (The Seattle Times).

Leadership support for LGBTQ+ programming at Cal Performances is provided by Michael P. N. A. Hormel.

Any Trocks fan will tell you--come for the side-splitting comedy, stay for the fantastic dancing! The technically stunning and shockingly elegant male ballerinos of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo have been charming Berkeley audiences with their singular brand of ballet satire since their campus debut in 1976. A lot has happened in American gay and drag culture since then, but the Trocks have persevered and remained as relevant and pace-setting as ever. Dance aficionados revel in the company's smart send-ups of iconic repertory, and ballet "newbies" are delighted by the high-camp drama executed with flair and finesse.

"Gentle comedy, slapstick farce and excellent dancing...this is lampooning at its most creative" (Bachtrack).
