Lefty O’Doul’s was named after the well-known and respected New York Giants star outfielder. With a .398 batting average he boasted the highest average out of any outfielder in the 20th century. Lefty was also credited with bringing America’s favorite past time over the pond to Japan right after World War 2. When he came back to the homeland, he was so inspired by what he saw that he decided to open a bar and restaurant where strangers could become friends, and where people might get a glimpse of a celebrity every once in awhile. - excerpt from Much Loved Lefty O’Doul’s Finds a Second Life in New Location by Colin Volkers, July 5th, 2018
