Lectin beads are magnetic particles prepared by covalent coupling of Concanavalin A (Con A), a plant lectin, to polystyrene particles. The unique saccharide-binding properties of Con A have made these particles useful for the labeling and isolation of glycan-presenting cells and glycoproteins in serum and cell lysate. Additionally, they have been used in cell adhesion studies, to effect lymphocyte activation, and to explore carbohydrate-based therapeutics.
