On Wednesday February 19, at 7:30 PM, at Room 12 of the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Avenue, Los Altos, the De Anza Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will feature a presentation by Don Wallace of Singing Tree Gardens nursery.
Singing Tree Gardens (www.singtree.com) is a regular and mail order nursery located in McKinleyville, California which specializes in rhododendrons, dwarf conifers, hydrangeas, ornamental grasses, trees, and shrubs.
One of the best types of rhododendrons for the Bay Area are Maddenii Series rhododendrons, many of which were hybridized in the Bay Area. Maddenii Series rhododendron species range from the Himalayan rain forests down to Thailand and Burma and up to Vietnam; and the species and hybrids are good container plants and many have fragrant flowers. Some of the maddenies at Singing Tree Gardens include Mi Amor, Mysterious Maddenii, Patricia Marie, General Braxton Bragg, Virginia Stewart, Owen Pierce, and Heaven Scent, all of which were hybridized in California.
Don Wallace has created several rhododendron hybrids.
Singing Tree Gardens is a highly landscaped nursery and very likely in the program you will see how the nursery was landscaped.
