November 4, 8pm; November 5, 8pm November 6, 7pm
Choreographer Christy Funsch returns to the SF stage with a new piece, Le grand spectacle de l'effort et de l'artifice, which will run for a series of performances where Simplicity, workmanship and understatement take aim at artifice and spectacle. This full-length evening work for six dancers intends to take pleasure in dismantling long held tropes about women as dancers. Of special interest to dance enthusiasts will be the performance embedded in Le Grand Spectacle of Path, by the late "Great Loner of American Dance" Daniel Nagrin, first performed in 1965. Funsch is the first woman granted permission to perform the work.
