Le Colonial in San Francisco will be serving a $65.00 five-course Asian Brothers Brewing Company beer tasting dinner on Wednesday, February 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Executive Chef Geoffrey Deetz has designed a meal highlighting menu items with cultural context that pair well with beers from Asia. More than a routine tasting dinner, this experience is inspired by a Vietnamese obsession with drinking beer and enjoying small plates of different foods, a tradition called Nhau meaning to drink with friends and loudly count mot, hai, ba, do (means one, two, three, drink) between bites of food. One can hear this in streets, restaurants and shops across Vietnam.
Chef Deetz has worked as a restaurateur for more than 30 years. In 2000 he moved to Vietnam and spent nearly two decades opening a dozen restaurants, many with his wife Quynh Nhu, plus curating visits by the likes of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey and food writers Alan Richman and Dori Greenspan. One of his venues CNN.com listed in the top restaurants to eat at in the world. In 2017 Deetz and Nhu came to the United States to open The Temple Club in Oakland that showcased "truly authentic" Vietnamese cuisine and was named a "Top 100 Restaurant" by the San Francisco Chronicle and received GQ Magazine's "Best Noodle Dish in America" designation, two of many local and national accolades.
The restaurant is located at 20 Cosmo Place between Sutter and Post and Jones and Taylor and is open Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. Valet parking is available.
