EVOLUTION OF TEACHING - LANGUAGE AND VOICE
a Series of Workshops for Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers *
Brian Hogencamp and Jito Yumibe
Saturday, March 16th, 2019
2-5pm
Price: $75
As teachers of Iyengar Yoga, our voice is our instrument to communicate yoga. It has the power to focus and energize as well as relax and calm our students. The skillful application of voice and the use of clear concise language are the hallmarks of refined and Intermediate Iyengar Yoga teaching.
In this three hour workshop, Brian and Jito (with Victoria assisting) will present practical methods, including tone, modulation, rhythm, and pacing to effectively communicate through the teaching process of demonstration, instructing, and correction. BKS Iyengar advised us that our words should “shoot like arrows to the part of the body we are teaching.” How do we develop this?
Progressive language and voice refinement is key to honing clarity of instruction, expressing subtle refinements, and generating an integrated experience of body, mind, and breath throughout the successive intermediate junior levels. Participants will be given the opportunity to teach and given specific feedback appropriate for the level to which they are next assessing.
* ELIGIBILITY
This series of workshops to evolve teaching skills are designed for Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers (CIYT) studying the Intermediate Junior I, II, III syllabi and also those actively studying with a mentoring teacher in preparation for IYNAUS Introductory I & II assessment this year (2019).
