La Mar Hosts Clos Pissarra Winemaker Dinner

La Mar Cebichería Peruana in San Francisco will host a Clos Pissarra wine paired dinner on Thursday, August 14, 2014, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Cebiche Lounge with passed appetizers and sparkling wine and then dinner at 7:00 p.m. at the Chef's Table. Wine maker and Master Sommelier Emmanuel Kemiji, who is also La Mar San Francisco's Wine Director, will be present at the dinner. Clos Pissarra produces wines from the highly acclaimed Montsant (Sacred Mountain in Catalan) and Priorat (Priory) regions of Spain which are located about 85 miles southwest of Barcelona.

The five-course menu, with libations, is priced at $105.00 per guest and tax and gratuity are included. Reservations are required, seating is limited and tickets are available at

The evening's first course will be Passion Scallop Tiradito (sliced scallop, creamy passion fruit leche de tigre, chalaquita, micro cilantro) with a 2012 Clos Pissarra, White Grenache, El Sol Blanc Vineyard, Montsant, followed by a second course of Salmón Ayacuchano (grilled salmon with mango chimichuri sauce on top of an Okinawa purple potato and quinoa salad, served with huacatay cream, watermelon radish, and avocado salsa criolla) with a 2009 Arrels, Grenache, Montsant and 2009 Clos Pissarra, Grenache and Syrah, Aristan Vineyard, Montsant. The third course, Codorniz Anticuchera (grilled quail with anticuchera sauce served with fingerling potatoes, choclo, spicy panchita and rocoto huancaina sauce) will be accompanied by a 2008 Clos Pissarra, Grenache, El Mont Vineyard, Priorat and a 2008 Clos d'Oc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, Priorat, and the fourth course, Short Ribs Seco (cilantro-braised short rib served on a bed of cannellini beans, with peas and baby carrots, seco sauce and salsa criolla ), will be served with a 2007 Clos Pissarra, Carignan, El Riu Vineyard, Priorat and a 2007 Clos Pissarra, Grenache and Carignan, La Vinyeta Vineyard, Priorat. For dessert diners will be able to enjoy Alfajores with lucuma ice cream.

Kemiji, the founder of multiple wineries in Spain, acted as Ritz-Carlton Director of Wine & Spirits from 1988 to 1999, first at Laguna Niguel and then at the renowned Dining Room in San Francisco. In 1989 he became the twelfth American to pass the Master Sommelier exam in London, England and one of only nine to date to pass on his first attempt. In the same year, he received the "Sommelier of the Year" award by the California Restaurant Writers Association. Kemiji was also chosen "Wine Director of the Year" in the Critics Choice Awards, and was honored in the August 1999 issue of San Francisco Magazine. The San Francisco Chronicle named Kemiji as one of the "10 Winemakers to Watch for 2000."

La Mar Cebichería Peruana is located on Pier 1½, on the Embarcadero across from Washington Street, in San Francisco, California. The restaurant is open daily for lunch/brunch and dinner.
