OVERVIEW:
This 3rd Annual Illumination Seminar and Scholars Forum is a dynamic and innovative learning event grounded in Caring Science, designed and offered in partnership with Kaiser Permanente’s (KP) Nurse Scholars Academy and the University of San Francisco School of Nursing and Health Professions. This unique forum was developed as part of a shared and overarching strategy to inspire individual and healthcare system transformation. Illumination seminars provide participants with opportunities to interact and learn from nationally renowned nurse leaders from diverse scholarly backgrounds, while continually exploring how to advance the integration of caring science into nursing professional practice, education, organizational leadership, and research.
DESCRIPTION:
This one-day seminar provides graduate-level nursing students/clinicians, educators, academic faculty, leaders, and community practice partners with the opportunity to learn about disruptive innovation and the integration of evidence-informed nursing practice. Speakers use didactic and experiential methods to engage and present learners with new models, processes, and tools to transform clinical care, careers, and organizations from the inside out.
KEYNOTE and FACULTY:
We are honored to have Dr. Bernadette Melnyk as our keynote speaker. Dr. Melnyk is Dean, Vice President for Health Promotion, Chief Wellness Officer for The Ohio State University, recognized nationally and globally for her ground-breaking work in innovation and evidence-based practice. Her text “Evidence-based Practice in Nursing & Healthcare: A Guide to Best Practice” is a foundation resource for nurse scholars in the Bay Area and around the world. Our day will be focused on the transformative role of evidence in quality patient care and nursing innovation. Faculty for the day includes Dan Weberg, Ph.D., RN (KP National Patient Care Services), Sara Horton-Deutsch, Ph.D., RN (USF Faculty), and Jim D’Alfonso, DNP, RN (KP Nurse Scholars Academy).
