Knitting Workshop Intensive: Volume and Textures for Machine Knitting

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Create edgy and sensuous 3D textures that define avant garde designer knitwear. We will explore hand manipulated stitch patterns using transfer tools on the single bed machine. Combining lifted stitches and short row techniques, we will custom design textiles with tactile shapes, patterns and dimensional volume.

Prerequisite:
None. Students must be 18+ years or older at the start of the class. Open to beginners.

Bring to first class:
images of inspiring knitwear and your favorite designs. Bring a notebook and pencil to take notes and sketch.

Instructor Bio:
Jeanette Au is an interdisciplinary artist, knitwear designer and educator in San Francisco. She was raised in the Lower East Side of New York City and trained in painting and drawing at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art and the Performing Arts. She holds a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the San Francisco Art Institute and a MFA in Knitwear Design from the Academy of Art University. She has presented her knitwear collection in Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. She has taught BFA fashion courses at Academy of Art University and California College of Art as well as textile arts and visual arts in San Francisco public schools and nonprofits. Jeanette Au's work blurs and transgresses the boundaries between fashion and art, exploring cross-cultural dialogues and liminal space. As an educator she shares inspiration, process and an exploration of material and techniques to discover and to delight in the unexpected.

$295.
