Booksmith is excited to present Kim Steinhardt and The Edge: The Pressured Past and Precarious Future of California's Coast, which Kim co-wrote with Gary Griggs. Join us at The Bindery!
The Edge is a dramatic snapshot of the California coast’s past, present and probable future in a time of climate change and expanding human activity. Written by two marine experts who grew up on the coast, this new book is both a celebration of the coast’s natural and cultural uniqueness and a warning of the many complex changes that threaten that uniqueness.
What's more, Kim will speak of his personal connection to the San Francisco Bay Area—he was just six years old when his parents spearheaded the movement to create the wildlife sanctuary that prevented filling in and development of the north end of San Francisco Bay.

Kim Steinhardt is an environmental writer and marine wildlife photographer who delivers popular lectures and photographic programs exploring the universe of sea otters and coastal stewardship. He is currently working on a collection of sea otter images and coastal storytelling to be released next year by National Geographic Books. As a long-time conservationist, Kim draws on his former service as a California state administrative law judge, litigator and public interest advocate, to translate coastal conservation concerns to the public to help build support for citizen action and legislative policymaking.
