Respected and acknowledged around the World as one of the three Detroit Techno innovators, Kevin Saunderson is a legend in his own right, who has helped to reshape the future of Dance music as we know it!
At the age of nine he moved to Belleville, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit where he attended Belleville High School and befriended two like-minded students, Derrick May and Juan Atkins. After graduating, Kevin attended Eastern Michigan University to study telecommunications and dream of playing professional football. He began to reconsider his direction by 1984, and turned to music instead — joining his high school pals, May and Atkins. Unknown to him at the time, this would be the move that would help Kevin's career escalate.
Originally starting out as a DJ, Kevin soon developed new skills that led him into producing records, which he released on his own label, KMS Records. The demand for Kevin as a Producer and DJ was overwhelming overseas, as well as in the States. Known early on for an extremely mechanistic style, he produced some of the hardest techno to come out of the Motor City, but routinely hit the mainstream dance charts as well with productions for his techno-pop act Inner City — his most commercially successful project. The group hit the UK Top 40 eight times, and earned four number one club hits on the American dance chart as well. After Inner City's initial success in 1988, the group remained his primary concern until the mid-'90s, but Saunderson never deserted his hard-hitting production style; throughout the '80s and '90s, Saunderson recorded as Tronik House, the Reese Project, E-Dancer, Inter-City, Essaray, and Reese & Santonio (the latter as a duo). And the rest is (well documented) history!
On Thursday, September 11th, one of the greatest ambassadors for techno to come out of Detroit or anywhere.. A true veritable legend.. Kevin Saunderson returns to Vessel for another night of BIG FUN.
