When I'm in the mood for good, cheap drinks this is the one place I go to. They open at 4-7pm for happy hour and every time I come here my friends and I always leave pretty tipsy (tipsy is good in our book). Service is always great here, the waitresses and the bartenders are always friendly to talk to. And almost every time I'm here, we always get freebies from the two guy bartenders.

Their food menu is quite interesting (good interesting). My favorite dish is the mac and cheese and if you know me, I'm not a fan of your typical mac and cheese but this one is one hell of a dish. I've tried all their cocktails on the menu, even the ones on the old menu and I love them all. The drinks are not watered down and typical like at sino or any other bar/lounge/restaurant you go to for cocktails. My all time favorite is the blackberry thyme margarita. The best I ever had.

Not to mention, the drinks are only $5 during happy hour.. This is definitely my all time favorite place to be for happy hour!

Confused beyond belief... The last time I walked into this property it was called FUEL & although the food was passable, I didn't think it would last too long because of the location off Santana Row.

This time however I want to make sure everyone yelps about the new place KAAMA because it needs to stick around!!

At first sight, the insides of Kaama remind me of Xanh in Mountain View. The same funky decor, cool beats and a young, fresh-out've-the-office clientele. My friend & I were a tad confused after reviewing the menu for a second. For some reason, we assumed the food would be Asian fusion, perhaps because of the last restaurant that was located  here. On top of that none of the descriptions match the traditional meaning of the dishes we recognized. This was off putting but intriguing at the same time. So we decided to grab a booth and check it out for ourselves.

Our server was soooo full of life & enthusiastic it was tough not to feel cheery. For a cynical Brit, that's not an easy task! But we kept an open mind and ordered a glass of wine and the Pomegranet martini - supposed to be a favourite amongst patrons but honestly it's nothing to write home about / on yelp.

The food on the other hand... O M G
It's never a good thing when your dish surprises you, except at Kaama. Each plate is a surprise & absolutely delicious. Keep a hold of your menu, so you can figure out what's in the mixture.

We ordered 4 tapas (more than enough for two people!) - the first to arrive were the nachos, which turned out to be Ahi Tuna in a delicious blend on top of a crisp nacho chip. The best part is the wasabi sauce drizzled over each piece, giving each mouthful a bit of a zing.

The second plate was the Mac n Cheese! Okay, so here's the thing, you do GET what you ordered i.e. traditional mac n cheese, but it's in a little bowl off to one side, almost there just as decoration, rejected by the new fangled version they've concocted instead. This dish turned out to be a delicious crostini topped with a single rigatoni that's been stuffed with the most yummy sausage combo. It's very italian and yet has a spicy kick while you chew.

The third plate was the shrimp egg roll - a must have according to most yelpers. Quite delicious, with more sriracha sauce to give it a nice spicy taste. Beware the miniature egg roll that comes on the side is sitting in a mini pool of sri racha sauce, so it's SUPER spicy when you decide to pop one in your already very confused mouth.

Our last & final plate was the Chicken Noodle Soup! We received 3 sliders topped with shredded chicken and slaw (I think)... this time the dish came with a tiny can of Campbells Chicken Soup, cute touch but not so tasty inside.

The verdict: everything was yum, though quite expensive for tapas. Our bill came to around $36pp incl tip. You're going to enjoy this place, just leave your traditional mind at the door before taking a seat. Also, PLEASE try something other than what yelpers have mentioned, we need more descriptions of things on the menu!!

"The concept of Kaama just feels amazing. Santana Row area lacked a place like this where you could lounge with your cocktails, have gourmet finger foods and then be able to hit the dance floor as well without having to step out to a different joint. Although this is an excellent alternative to the current places on the row, Kaama feels like it absolutely belongs on the Row once you step indoors."

"Don't be fooled by the name Kaama and assume it's an Indian restaurant. There are definitely some east Asian influences in some of the dishes though. We were able to sample nearly every item on the menu (there are 16 dishes), and I was so impressed by everything. There were flavor combinations I'd never had before, and everything just worked together. It felt like a party in my mouth! For those who don't have a tolerance to spice, beware, as nearly half their menu incorporates some kind of spice.

Some of my top favorites were:
* Pot Pie = Baked Oyster on the half shell with ham, potato and onion topped puff pastry
* Nachos = blue corn chips, spicy goat cheese topped with white truffle, wild mushrooms and pico de gallo
* Mac 'n' Cheese = spanish chorizo & manchego stuffed rigatoni on a garlic crostini
* Shrimp Cocktail = coconut poached prawns, grilled pineapple, grapefruit & tomatillo-lime jam on yuca chips
* PB & J = panko crusted scallops, Thai peanut mashed potato, port gele & blackberry-cilantro compote
* Strawberry Lollipop = strawberry & pistachio crusted lamb chop, parsnip mash, mint pesto & balsamic reduction"
