John Kriken and the Sunday Afternoon Watercolor Society (1.5 LUs)

John Kriken will speak about the creation of the San Francisco Watercolor Society as it relates to his work as an architect for SOM and his life as a San Francisco resident.
The Sunday Afternoon Watercolor Society (SAWS) was started over twenty years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area by founder John Kriken. John, a prolific architect and professor with UC Berkeley, has archived his paintings since SAWS conception and releases them now in this exclusive art book. The Sunday Afternoon Watercolor Society: San Francisco Impessions has over 100 original watercolor paintings from Mr. Kriken, wherein original paintings can be purchased outright, with a portion of proceeds going to go to the Katherine and John Lund Kriken Graduate Student Award at UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design.
The publisher of The Sunday Afternoon Watercolor Society, ORO Editions and its imprint Goff Books, will make the book available at the event for purchase and signature by the Mr. Kriken.

About the Speaker
Mr. Kriken's work has won more than 20 national design awards from Progressive Architecture, the American Institute of Architects, and the American Society of Landscape Architects, among others. He has taught urban design at the University of California, Berkeley; Rice University; and Washington University, and has served on numerous arts and community boards; design review panels; and design award juries. He is the founding member of the thirty-four-year-old Sunday Afternoon Watercolor Society.
