Jin Ishikawa’s Reed Boat Launch

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Jin Ishikawa's reed boat will be launched May 6th at 1p.m. Live music, food and drinks
beforehand. Visitors will also get the chance to meet Jin Ishakawa and an opportunity to walk on the 30' boat. All are welcome to attend this free event at 300 Napa Street, Sausalito. Parking is available next door at Dunphy Park.

Galilee Harbor Community Association is thrilled to host internationally-known boat builder Jin Ishikawa. Between April 18th and May 6th, Mr. Ishikawa will craft a 30-foot vessel entirely from local California tule reeds. Construction will be visible from the harbor's public path for all to enjoy. Upon its launch on May 6th, the boat will conduct sea trials on San Francisco Bay in preparation for a future, larger vessel intended to sail from San Francisco to Hawaii. It will be the culmination of Ishikawa's Expedition Amana project, which explores humankind's connection to the world's oceans through the use of sustainable materials and techniques.

Galilee Harbor, a liveaboard community of maritime workers and artists, is certainly no stranger to boat building: the group's annual Maritime Day celebration (held on the first Saturday in August) has been a local institution for more than 40 years.
